Welfare rights service

Evidence shows that families affected by disability are more likely than other families to experience social exclusion and to live in poverty. The welfare rights service can help to:

  • Identify benefit entitlement
  • Fill in application forms
  • Carry out reviews
  • Address fuel poverty issues

The team also offers advice on financial matters such as prioritising spending, bills, and managing financial records and budgets.

In 2015-16, the Welfare Rights team helped carers and disabled people to access financial gains of over £1.5 million. The service has National Standards accreditation and receives funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

To access the Welfare Rights service you must make an appointment.

The team operates a dedicated benefits advice line for carers and disabled people, Monday – Friday, 10.00am – 4.00pm. The direct number for this is 01382 341700.

The Welfare Rights “Which Benefit” leaflet provides information on benefits, services and discounts that could be available to you as a carer or disabled person. You can download the leaflet here.
