Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 Information & Advice – Have your say!

Monday 29th Janaury @ 11.00am – 2.00pm Dundee Carers Centre, Seagate House (light lunch will be provided)

Dundee Carers Centre are currently working with partners to produce helpful information & advice about the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 to ensure carers, their families and support organisations are well informed about the changes brought in by the new legislation.

We need your help to get this right and would like to invite unpaid carers and professionals to join us on Monday 29th January at Dundee Carers Centre to help us design helpful information for carers in Dundee. We will be focusing on developing a leaflet on ‘What to expect when you do an Adult Carer Support Plan’ and also looking at how we develop a website with local information to carers in Dundee.

If you are interested in attending this session please call Megan Clark on 01382 200422 or email: megan.clark@dundeecarerscentre.org.uk

What’s Best for Dundee Carers

Dundee Carers Centre and Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership (DHSCP) are pleased to announce the publication of the “What’s Best for Dundee Carers?” Pilot Project report.

The project wanted to explore how the Carers (Scotland) Act could best be implemented to support carers in Dundee to achieve their outcomes.

The project was undertaken in a joint approach through a Project Group including carers along with colleagues from local carers organisations, Dundee City Council, NHS Tayside and Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership, and was carried out between May and October 2017.

You can access the report here “What’s Best for Dundee Carers”

Carers Interest Network

On Wednesday 13th December, Dundee Carers Centre hosted Carer Interest Network gathering bringing together organisations providing targeted and generic support to unpaid carers across Dundee. The gathering provided organisations with an update on Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 implementation activity in Dundee, with a summary of findings presented from the recent “What’s Best for Dundee Carers?” Pilot Project.

The gathering also provided organisations with the opportunity to discuss the future direction of work to increase awareness, identification and availability of information to carers, with contribution to discussions about the development of multi-agency guidance and making more information available online to carers via a dedicated web resource.

Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 Workforce Training

We are also working alongside partners in Health & Social Care to ensure that workers are able to undertake their new responsibilities. We are running weekly sessions running until end of March 2018 so that assessors understand the new law and prepare good quality Adult Carer Support Plans. These sessions have enabled good discussions about the upcoming changes and what they mean for staff.
