Young Carers Voice “Roadshows”

Young Carers Voice are working with Dundee City Council to host Young Carer Roadshows within all secondary schools in Dundee throughout March.

The roadshows will raise awareness of young carers, and the support available through the Policy for Young Carers in School, from Dundee Carers Centre and other local agencies. Young Carers Voice are also consulting on the proposals for young carers in the new Carers Act. The results of this consultation will be fed back to the Carers Partnership to inform the implementation of Young Carer Statements, and the development of supports for young carers in Dundee.

The first roadshow will be held at Baldragon Academy on Monday 18 March 2018 with a visit from Aileen Campbell, Minister for Public Health, Joe Fitzpatrick MSP, Audrey May, Head of Schools, Alexis Chappell, Chair of the Carers Partnership and Gregor Murray, Convener of Children & Families Committee.

Carers Interest Network

On Wednesday 13th December, Dundee Carers Centre hosted Carer Interest Network gathering bringing together organisations providing targeted and generic support to unpaid carers across Dundee. The gathering provided organisations with an update on Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 implementation activity in Dundee, with a summary of findings presented from the recent “What’s Best for Dundee Carers?” Pilot Project.

The gathering also provided organisations with the opportunity to discuss the future direction of work to increase awareness, identification and availability of information to carers, with contribution to discussions about the development of multi-agency guidance and making more information available online to carers via a dedicated web resource.

Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 Workforce Training

We are also working alongside partners in Health & Social Care to ensure that workers are able to undertake their new responsibilities. We are running weekly sessions running until end of March 2018 so that assessors understand the new law and prepare good quality Adult Carer Support Plans. These sessions have enabled good discussions about the upcoming changes and what they mean for staff.
