Know your rights, use your rights

Did you know there are an estimated 800,000 unpaid carers in Scotland? Many unpaid carers are unaware of the legal rights and support available to them that can support them in their role. Carers Rights Day is a national campaign to change that.

This year’s theme, “Know your rights, use your rights”, is about empowering carers with knowledge and confidence to access the help they deserve.

Your rights include:

  • Carer’s Assessment – to identify your needs and support options
  • Right to support to meet “eligible needs”
  • Right to one week’s unpaid leave plus parental leave: Click here to find out more
  • Right to request a flexible working arrangement: Click here to find out more
  • Right to be involved in services
Carers of Dundee has more information on involvement and how you can apply for upcoming opportunities. Click here to find out more
  • Hospital discharge consultation
You have a say when the person you care for leaves hospital.

Watch this Let’s Talk episode with Gillian McFarlane, who is a support worker with Dundee Carers Centre and works alongside the Hospital Discharge Hub in Ninewells.
