Unpaid Carers Enjoy a Day to Rest, Relax & Recharge at Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa

On Tuesday 4th March, we were delighted to welcome over 100 unpaid carers to the beautiful Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa for a well-deserved day to rest, relax and recharge.
Thanks to funding from Shared Care Scotland, carers were able to take time out from their caring role and enjoy a wonderful mix of complementary therapies delivered by talented local businesses from across Dundee.

Throughout the day, carers treated themselves to mini makeovers, reflexology, massages, Reiki, yoga, and soothing soundbath sessions. We also made sure everyone was well fed and refreshed with light snacks and a buffet lunch.
Carers give so much of themselves every single day, often without taking a moment for their own wellbeing. Our Carers Wellbeing Day is about creating that space — to allow carers a chance to rest, relax and recharge.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the event a success for carers. We are incredibly grateful to Shared Care Scotland for their Short Breaks Funding, and whose commitment to the wellbeing of unpaid carers makes opportunities like this possible.
We also extend our thanks to Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa for generously donating their venue through the Respitality project — their generosity made this day possible.
Marthe Haste - Short Breaks Team Leader (Dundee Carers Centre)
Access to regular and meaningful short breaks is vital for carer health and wellbeing, and so it is wonderful to see carers being recognised and celebrated at an exciting event such as this.
This year the Short Breaks Fund is supporting over 25,000 unpaid carers across Scotland to take a much-needed break from their caring responsibilities.
Support of this scale simply wouldn’t be possible without organisations like Dundee Carers Centre. We are proud to be a long-term supporter of the centre who make a real difference to carers and their families across the city and beyond.
Ailbhe Hendry, Short Breaks Fund Manager
We’d like to offer a huge thank you to Shared Care Scotland for making this event possible, to Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa for the use of their lovely facilities, and to LUSH Dundee for generously donating fresh handmade cosmetics for our carers’ goody bags.
