Taking the Leap for Dundee’s Unpaid Carers

This June, Roxanne Campbell, Provost at St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral Dundee, will be doing something truly extraordinary to mark her 40th birthday.

Roxanne is taking on a charity skydive in support of Dundee Carers Centre, helping to raise vital funds to help sustain their services. As well as embarking on a bold challenge, it is one in support of a cause that carries deep personal meaning.

Although she didn’t realise it at the time, Roxanne was a young carer herself, which is one of the reasons she’s chosen to support Dundee Carers Centre through this milestone moment.

As I look back, I recognise my own experience as a child and teenager, supporting and caring for someone with complex needs, without support networks like the Dundee Carers Centre and so this work feels really important to me personally.

The Centre does some incredible work supporting carers and disabled people across the city. They provide emotional & practical support, advocacy, counselling services, and perhaps most importantly their presence and work says to unpaid carers they are not alone.

I’m a wee bit terrified of jumping out of a plane, but if it helps to raise awareness, and some financial support for that work then it will be absolutely worth it!

By taking to the skies, Roxanne hopes not only to raise funds, but also awareness – shining a light on the thousands of unpaid carers in our community who make a difference every day.
