Carers Week 2026: A Week of Building Carer-Friendly Communities

Carers Week 2026 has been a truly positive and inspiring week for everyone at Dundee Carers Centre.
This year, our focus has been on being out in our communities—raising awareness, starting conversations, and making sure unpaid carers across Dundee feel recognised, understood and supported.
It’s been fantastic to connect with so many people, organisations and local businesses who share our commitment to building more carer-friendly communities.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the week:
Raising Awareness and Sharing Support
Throughout Carers Week, we continued to promote our Everyone Cares E-Module, helping more people understand the role of unpaid carers and how they can offer support.
The module was visited 14 times during May and June, showing growing interest in learning more about caring responsibilities and how we can all play our part.
If you haven’t yet taken the module, you can do so by clicking here
Improving information within GP’s
We also worked closely with GP practices across Dundee, updating information displayed on reception TV screens. These now include a handy QR code, making it easier than ever for people to quickly access support by visiting our website.
Connecting Through Community Activities
Carseview Carers Week Event – Thursday 4 June 2026

We were invited along to a Carers Week event at Carseview and spoke with staff members about our services, who then took flyers back to their wards.
We also connected with other organisations that were also there, including PKAVS and the Angus Carers Centre.
We have been invited back to update notice boards on the wards and also to attend some staff meetings.
Connecting with Carers

On Thursday, 11 June, our Lochee Connecting Carers Café had a special Carers Week celebration. The group enjoyed cake, candles, and even a lovely rendition of “Happy Carer’s Week”
The café meets every two weeks from 10.30am at The Friary and offers a welcoming space for carers to connect.

Taking the Conversation into Workplaces

We were delighted to be invited by the DE&I group at the Dundee Customer & Colleague Engagement Centre at Tesco Call Centre to attend their Carers Week event on Wednesday, 10 June.
The event aimed to:
- Raise awareness of unpaid carers
- Provide support and information
- Create a space where carers feel recognised and understood
It was a great opportunity to speak with colleagues who joined us during their breaks and protected time. We were able to:
- Share information about Dundee Carers Centre
- Offer practical advice and guidance
- Highlight the support available to unpaid carers
- Encourage open conversations around caring responsibilities
These conversations are so important in helping carers feel seen and supported in the workplace.
Reaching People in Health Settings

On Friday, 12 June, our team of staff and volunteers visited Ninewells Hospital to raise awareness of our services.
We updated posters across wards and hosted an information stall in the main concourse, giving us the chance to speak directly with patients, visitors and staff about the support available to carers.
Thanks to Our Supportive Local Businesses

Looking Ahead
Carers Week may be over, but the conversations and connections we’ve built will continue.
We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved this week—from raising awareness in workplaces and healthcare settings to strengthening community connections and celebrating carers together.
Most importantly, we’ve taken meaningful steps towards creating a Dundee where carers are recognised, supported and valued every day.
Thank you to everyone who took part, supported our work, and helped us spread the message.
