Challenge Poverty Week: Support, information and practical help

Challenge Poverty Week 2026

Challenge Poverty Week takes place from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October, and throughout the week Dundee Carers Centre will be highlighting practical support that can help carers, disabled people and their families manage household costs and access the help they are entitled to.

We know that financial pressures can affect many areas of everyday life. Rising or unexpected household costs can be particularly difficult when you are also managing a caring role or living with a disability.

That’s why, during Challenge Poverty Week, we’ll be sharing information about services and support that could make a difference.

Come and meet our Carer Money Matters team

Our Carer Money Matters team will also be out and about during Challenge Poverty Week.

Come along and speak to the team at the Challenge Poverty Week Community Event:

  • Thursday 8 October
  • 9.30am to 12.30pm
  • Boomerang Community Centre
    10 Kemback Street
    Dundee
    DD4 6ET

We will be there to chat about the support available to carers, including help with energy bills and other money matters.

Whether you have a question, aren’t sure what support might be available to you, or simply want to find out more, come along and have a chat.

Social Security – find out what you are entitled to

Get extra support from your utility providers

One simple step you can take is to sign up for the Priority Services Register (PSR).

The Priority Services Register (PSR) is a free, UK-wide service that provides extra help during power cuts or interruptions to your electricity, gas, or water supply.

Joining the PSR helps your utility companies to provide adapted services, adjust communications and make amendments to keep you safe, such as setting up a password scheme and providing advance warning of planned interruptions to electricity, gas or water supplies.

If you, or someone you care for, may benefit from additional support, it’s worth finding out more.
