Carers Rights Day 2026

Thursday 19 November 2026
Someone you know is a carer, but do they know it yet?
Carers Rights Day is a national awareness campaign that aims to help unpaid carers understand their rights and access the support available to them.
This year’s theme,“Someone you know is a carer, but do they know it yet?”, focuses on helping people recognise that they have a caring role and encouraging them to seek support sooner. Many people see themselves simply as a husband, wife, partner, son, daughter, friend or neighbour and do not realise that they are an unpaid carer. Recognising your caring role is often the first step to accessing information, advice and support.
At Dundee Carers Centre and Carers of Dundee, we are marking Carers Rights Day by raising awareness of unpaid caring, promoting carers’ rights and connecting people with support available locally.
Are you an unpaid carer?
You may be a carer if you regularly help someone who could not manage without your support due to:
- Disability
- Long-term illness
- Mental ill health
- Frailty in older age
- Alcohol or drug dependency
Support can include:
- Practical tasks and household chores
- Personal care
- Emotional support
- Attending appointments
- Managing medications
- Shopping or finances
If this sounds familiar, you may be an unpaid carer and support is available.
