Celebrating the Legacy of Frances Wright: Book Launch and Fundraiser for Dundee Carers Centre

Highlighting the extraordinary life and influence of Frances Wright, a book written by Roger Illsley will be launched during the Innes Duffus Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, 18 March, at 17:30.

The book delves into Wright’s pivotal role as a trailblazer for equality and social justice, making her the first American woman to publicly denounce slavery and advocate for gender equality.

The Frances Wright 200 Project commemorates the bicentennial of Wright’s Nashoba initiative. The project’s aims are celebrating the Wright family’s historical contributions to Dundee, fostering links with Germantown, Tennessee, and supporting local community causes in their tradition of philanthropy.

As part of the project, Illsley’s book on Frances Wright will be a limited-edition release of 400 copies. All proceeds from book sales will be donated to local charities including Dundee Carers Centre, ensuring Frances Wright’s legacy continues to empower our local community.

Tickets for the book launch are free and attendees will also learn about Frances Wright’s enduring influence and the project’s plans, which include potential links with Germantown, Tennessee.
