Dundee Carers Centre wins charity award for excellence

The award is a Carers Trust standard for best practice in services, advice and information for unpaid carers.

Dundee Carers Centre is delighted to have achieved the Excellence for Carers Award. The award is a Carers Trust standard for best practice in services, advice and information for unpaid carers.

Dundee Carers Centre, part of Carers Trust’s network of local carer organisations, was rigorously assessed for its service, as well as the quality of its leadership, staff, internal processes and engagement with key local partners and stakeholders.

Dundee Carers Centre aims to improve the lives of unpaid carers of all ages and disabled people by offering a range of services, including group and individual support, training and information, along with help to access short breaks, counselling and self-directed support. The Centre helps over 2500 people a year who look after family members, friends or neighbours because of friends because of illness, disability, drug or alcohol dependency and/or mental health issues.

Organisations achieving the Carers Trust standard must demonstrate quality of service to unpaid carers across ten key areas, including outcomes and impact, carer involvement, and information, advice and support.

As well as signalling the quality of its services for unpaid carers, the award means Dundee Carers Centre’s partners and stakeholders can be confident they are working with an organisation that has best practice and sustainability at the heart of its work.

The award was presented to the organisation at a Civic Reception hosted by Lord Provost Bill Campbell in June, which was held in the City Chambers to mark National Carers Week.

It is a significant achievement that Dundee Carers Centre has been awarded with the Carers Trust Excellence for Carers Quality Standard by Carers Trust. I was delighted that the award highlighted the passion, dedication and commitment of the team to provide the very best support for carers; praised our positive culture, supportive environment and sense of team that exists across the centre; and praised the strategic partnerships and spirit of collaboration that are well embedded across all our work. The award recognises that our team of staff and volunteers should be very proud of the work they do, and the difference they are making in the lives of unpaid carers across Dundee.
