Introduction to the Creative Writing Group
In collaboration with Wanda McGregor from Clype Collective, Dundee Carers Centre began a monthly Carers Creative Writing workshop in 2021.
We meet on the second Monday of the month, arriving at 12 for a blether, then starting the workshop at 12:30 for two hours.
We’ll share a writing prompt, write for 10 minutes, and then share what we’ve written. You can come to the Carers Centre for the session or join via Google Meet from home. There is no pressure to share your work, and we don’t worry about things like spelling or handwriting… we just care about the stories you want to tell. Please get in touch with Dundee Carers Centre if you’d like to come along.
The group has gone from strength to strength, performing their work at several events such as during Carers Week and the centre AGM.
On Monday, November 18, the group launched their first collection “On the Map” which brings together a selection of short stories and poems that are written by Creative Writing Group members. The collection includes original artwork from carers and was made possible through a generous donation from the staff at Computacenter Edinburgh.
“Carers in Dundee face a lot of challenges, but the launch of this creative writing collection shows that carers are far more than just the roles they take on. These carers have some incredible stories to tell, and we’re really excited to be able to bring them to a wider audience with the help of Book Week Scotland”
