Meet the Counselling Team! Claire Blackburn
We would like to give everyone an opportunity to meet our new counselling team by introducing each member and getting a quick summary of their personal and professional background.
Name: Claire
Random Fact about me: I love Mexican but I hate onions and peppers. I can often cause some chuckles when I order fajitas or nachos at a restaurant. But oddly enough I love pickled onions, but if you put vinegar on my food, I will run a mile.
Something you do to support your own wellbeing: I have a few things I rely on to help keep me at my best; I love going to see plays, musicals and shows and try to go see a few throughout the year.
I love spending time with my friends and family and having days out and seeing new places and some old favourites. And to keep my body good, I’ll go for massages to reset myself maybe the odd facial. You will also find my house and kindle are filled with books and my phone filled with notes of books to buy or pick up from the library, but there is not enough time in the world to read them all, but that won’t stop me trying.
What made you get involved as a counsellor at the carers centre: I became a counsellor to be able to support people to realise their own strengths and their own worth. I’m not one to shy away from the conversations about what feelings and thoughts are coming up so working in Mental Health made sense. I came to work with the Carers Centre because of the quality of the work that is done to help those who have caring roles, as the classic saying goes “you can’t pour from an empty cup” and it’s a privilege to help people fill their cups and take time for themselves. It can be such a weight lifted when we can make sense of those messy and difficult emotions, the more we try to avoid them the bolder they can become.
